The inside track for those who need to know

For me the single most important aspect of the whole "debate thing" is that Gordon (the Unelected) Brown has at last done something right, by yet another gaffe. Which, by the way, must surely have been OKayed by Mandleson (the Unelected) Meddler too!!!!
For us - NOT for himself and his cronies!
He has opened Pandora's Box in grasping at the "Debate final straw" in the hope of somehow, almost impossibly, getting elected. Which part of "more unpopular, even, than Michael Foot was" he has a problem with remains a mystery.

In future, any incumbent PM will lose several points in all of the opinion polls if they DARE to rule out public debates between party leaders.....EVER.
What the political mandarins haven't yet realised is that the real democratic snowball has now started rolling downhill and is already unstoppable: ordinary people have now seen the leaders for what they are, and what they seek to achieve. And generally, I suspect they abhor most of what they see.
Why is it that the Electorate (in this so-called Democracy) have no choice but to accept a "democratic granularity" of about 5 years. None of the political elite want this to change...."Pick your mouthpiece and then be STUCK with it for 5 whole, long, sad years!" they insist.
But things change much faster than that these days. Nowadays, for them as well as us (THEY just haven't realised it yet; and that is their fatal mistake!)
We need to find a way to "top up" Electoral confidence behind the incumbents at much shorter Time granularity. If their support wanes, then OUT THEY MUST GO! After just a few MONTHS if they earn that Electoral disgust level. And the criteria needn't be restricted merely (as they suggest!) by "gross, proven, corrupt practice" or "private/public inquiries which merely stall forever!
Failure to retain the Electors confidence at all Times will suffice, thank you very much!

All sorts of simple, effective ways to do that, but because it involves the incumbents (all of them) returning Timely Power to the Electorate, they will fight (bloodily!) to deny us.
As Citizen Smith used to say..."Power to the People!"
Whilst the mandarins would prefer the Orwellian "send him to Room 101"
Ah well.....someday we will be see real Democracy, where we decide, not them?

Its the Emperor's new clothes syndrome. Once the 'mystique', aura, mystery has been opened up, the institution is seen by the Man on the Clapham Omnibus for what it is (not).

True of Parliament (and the expenses debacle, cash for influence scandal, abuse of trust)

True of Politics (in it for MP's personal gain, hang the electorate)

and, I suppose, true of the Catholic Church, revealed as a bunch of sexual abusers and worse. {Dont get into Religion, GMcIW, for God's sake - Ed]
