The Sports Exchange

The inside track for those who need to know

There are more conspiracy theories about betting exchanges than there are about Americans covering up obvious alien landings.

While on the subject of ALIENS, did you know that over 10,000 American have now been abducted by alien crafts and then returned safely to Planet Earth… I bet they have a few stories to tell.

Trading per se is a respectable and honest occupation. I have little doubt that many traders, on betfair for example, apply simple, honest trading strategies to try to profit from the dynamics of the market on various betting events. That said, because Betting Integrity enforcement is so poor, they are virtually certain, IMHO, to be fleeced by those who take advantage of (in particular) Timing anomalies which are unobvious except to those willing to use them for fraud. The big loophole which allows such fraud (and stifles both fair punting and fair trading) is that spivs can employ strategies which effectively "spoof" the market to their advantage. They can also "shovel" proceeds from the market when events turn dramatically in their favour!
Sometimes, this can be done at ZERO risk to themselves, because all offers they put up to induce market dynamics in their favour can be cancelled BEFORE it's humanly possible to snatch them!- if things turn against their scam, suddenly, for example. Essentially, there is no enforced minimum PERSISTENCE of any offer they put up. THAT is what's fundamentally wrong right now.
Regarding enforcement, it's not rocket science for the likes of betfair to examine their clientele's P&L performance and quickly establiish who amongst them is able to take profits consistently above what is statistically reasonable (whether trading or punting!)
These spivs have needed shutting down for a long Time, starting 5 years ago when I began highlighting their unfair advantage.
On past performance though, betfair won't do it, and the Gambling Commission haven't the drive to make them do it either!
