The inside track for those who need to know

LTA and Politics: All time-lows reported today

Are we surprised? The LTA, governing body of UK tennis, rubbished for its performance in fielding worthless David Cup teams (yet again). despite £40m+ lavished on the sport, despite moving to a custom-built centre at Roehampton (its the white elephant in the room syndrome), despite hugely, highly paid staff and 'management':yet, here we are, facing immediate relegation to the bottom, pits, sump of the world tennis competition. Inept, inadequate, waste of money, we may all think. A non-performer to ponder over.

Contrast this neatly [nice little link there, Gordo - Ed] to the public view of British politics as reported in the press this weekend:

YouGov : 49% of voters think that "this is the most corrupt parliament in Britain’s history."

So, forget about rotten boroughs and all that, here we are in the 21st century, days of Empire lorst and gorn, and the greatest democracy of modern times riddled and riven with graft, self-serving swizzling of expenses and so on, to an epic degree. Another non-performer to ponder over Easter.

Where do we go from here? Follow ripe political comment and political betting propositions here on the Sports Exchange in tandem with our newly-formed political blog at www.dickspolitics.com.

Not ready for action till Good Friday, more nearer the time.

Blimey, touched a nerve there, Adonis!

We forget so easily: Jonah's an electoral virgin GORDON BROWN is UNELECTED to his assumed High Office - is this unique in the 'honourable' roll of Prime Ministers? No, Callaghan? the 14th Earl of Home? quite a lot really - BUT they never came up again, so Jonah's going down for keeps.

We will develop this over at Dicks Politics www.dickspolitics.co.uk, an unassuming little political blog set up by our good mate from The Sports Exchange, Richard Stoddart. Follow us over there, the LTA rubbish has now hit the political zone courtesy of the All-Party Parliamentary Tennis Committee's timely report yesterday.

All parties seek to retain the graft process: the Citizenry are required to vote about every five years and award their (irrevocable) proxy to some or other boar with it's snout in the trough. Although it is said that anyone can stand for election against these swine, in practice, the only way to get your snout wet is to suckle up to the "men in grey suits" of an established party, and then essentially DROP YOUR SHORTS and become a boar oneself.
That modern technology supersedes the need for this archaic process (ask your bank if it has found ways to reliably identify who is entering remote transactions) is entirely lost on the incumbents. Or more accurately, it TERRIFIES them!
If our proxiesa were given over only to the mundane business of Parliament, and web-based general polls, essentially referenda (every day for those who wish to partake!) , became the norm, we would rid ourselves of these parasitic silver-tongued, silver-spooned spivs once and for all.
Will it happen?
Power is a strongly addictive commodity.
Those having it are hugely reluctant to give it up: look at Gordon Brown's current behaviour. he actually believes that he has a chance to be elected by us (for the first time, note)!!!!!!
That's fine..... the longer he believes that, the more likely he is to get his just deserts with minimal fuss, and maximum speed......
