The Sports Exchange

The inside track for those who need to know

We all go through life meeting people, dropping old acquaintances, losing touch with the odd friend or family member, picking up with some of them, and occasionally finding a real buddy. In the sporting world, which I take to include players as well as spectators and active gamblers, this is all too true.

I was privileged today to chew over the swings and roundabouts of Life with that sportsman and great citizen The Gambler, John '2E' Tuohy, at his riverside retreat on the banks of the Thames; and to share the odd tincture whilst we ruminated on our new, joint venture, The Gambling Exchange, which you (if you are reading this blog) have already joined.

We met to determine the aims and objectives of this new site, and resolved, in the absence of anyone else to control us, that our intentions are:

1. Actively to run a social network site with a gambling theme;
2. Invite all our 'sporting' friends to join in and add their views, ideas and ambitions;
3. Introduce new content with informed opinion, advice, recommendations and opportunities for the independent gambler at large;
4. Together to build a community of like-minded people who will regularly enjoy - and frequently contribute to - the discussions and blog posts on The Gambling Exchange;
5. Link to the 'public' social networks using our own technology to spread our message and community.

Over the weeks ahead, you will learn more of our end-game, to build a Gambling Exchange with a difference, with decent terms, a social conscience and a great environment for the active sportsman. Join in, participate and follow us! Welcome!

Great thing about virtual holidays, you have lots of time to chat to all your virtual buddies on The Gambling Exchange. Like the 'Nap of the Day' why not tempt us with Phil's Hot Tip from time to time?

You guys have to provide the technical stuff, I'm just here to provide light relief (who's kidding - Ed.). My other test site is for City lawyers, sorry to lower the tone of the debate.

Just off for a nap of the day.

Morning all, on this MayDay Bank Holiday. BTW, I don't really have a need for Bank Holidays now; I am on a virtual "holiday", aka retired from the world of work.

My main interest is in horse-racing. I came out of the RAF in 1956 and joined the shady world of bookmakers as a settler for Arthur Horton of Sydenham and remained as a worker in this field until about 1972, when I packed it all in and joined the opposition: HM Customs and Excise as a VATman officer and later a COBOL programmer in Sarfend on Sea HQ. I like to have a fun punt on the nags, especially when racing is on TV.

What about a membership "nap of the day" in due course? You know, where one can give their tip of the day on the horses? Just one horse - not a shotgun type of thing where you give a load of selections, hoping that at least one of them obliges? You never know, we might have a shrewd judge amongst us.

Just a fort. PhilipH.

Excellent stuff Gordon.

Keep up the good work, and welcome to the "beginning of the beginning".
