Fore!!

GOLF and The Open starts on Thursday; the world's greatest golf championship, no question. This year at the Ailsa Course at Turnberry, one of the most striking courses on the Open circuit, with several holes running along the beach in true links style and open to all the elements - and the west coast of Scotland does elements, as any putter or driver from down south will assert! Something the Yanks and other soft overseas visitors learn the hard way.

Can we look forward to a spirited… Continue

First Test day Three

England have lost any chance they had of winning this game and it's looks a nailed on draw. This wicket is looking as placid as Monty Panesar's bowling and Australia look in no mood to toss away their wickets as many of the England players did. No swing for any of England's three bowlers and the two spinners look a bit sterile.

They did not create many chances, and Australia scored at will. So what happens now?

Well as predicted, the draw is the strong favourite, trading… Continue

Jonners, Blowers and Dan Maskell

Unlike you well-equipped sportsmen, Mrs W does not subscribe to Sky Sport, so I have to rely on Radio5Live for the daily Test match commentary. No idea who they are but its a time warp, latter day Jonners and Blowers puffing away. Brilliant, crisp, incisive, authoritative stuff from well presented chaps with good 'delivery'.

Contrast this if we may with the stumbling, dull, dull presentation from Wombleydon the other week. Rays of light in the occasional bijoux contributions from… Continue

First Test, Day two

Well honours were even after day 1 with England possibly in front as they will get to bowl last on this wicket which is taking a LOT of turn.

Having done two trades yesterday, the first was to lay Australia at 3.35 and back them at 4.6 when there was heavy resistance at 4.7 with a bet of £10k holding the price at 4.7.

I then got in again just after lunch at 2.54 and still have that position now and as I write Australia are trading at 7.6. I will now wait until they bat to… Continue

First Test

Ok so here we go, the talking the talk is over and it is time to walk the walk. Can the English back up the tough talk? Opinion in the pro trader ranks is sharply divided between an easy three day victory for one of the sides and a 1500 run bat-a-thon. I am in the latter camp but in the interest of fairness I will put both cases.

In the red corner we have the draw. As explained in my earlier post, I expect a no result due to the English desperation not to go 1-0 down. I expect the… Continue

The night before Christmas

Remember how excited you used to get the night before Christmas? Well that is how it feels to me as for the first time as a professional trader, I am in the country hosting the Ashes at the time they are on and able to insist that I MUST watch every ball for the sake of my job!

So what can we expect, well logic plays a huge part. And simple logic gives us an easy answer. The first Test will be a draw. Why? Let me count the ways.

The pitch has been built on the blueprint of… Continue

The Ashes

Well the BS stops tomorrow and the games begin. England have waited 2 years to erase the humiliation and the best they could come up with was moving the first test from Lords as Australia always win it or draw it. So it is off to Wales we go to see if the diabolical ground change has scared the Aussies into forfeiting the match. I doubt it, they will turn up!

This match will be a good gauge on where the two teams are. Traditionally Australia like to set the tone by winning the first… Continue

New balls, please

Well, that's that for another 12 months! Wombleydon showed off its £100m roof on two occasions, what a triumph. And Roger entered the history books in the presence of Pete Sampras, not a dry eye in the house!

Here's hoping you all made good use of the trading advice from the Sports Exchange, shame we didnt get the Betting Exchange fully functional in time, but it will be active for the cricket, more on that shortly.

Our hero, J2E has taken a few days off for R&R and we… Continue

Dry bobs at Wimbledon, wet bobs at Henley, this is not the week to be in the City. Undaunted, Your Correspondent is venturing into the Square Mile tomorrow in pursuance of his endeavours for The Sports Exchange.

Where's the Tip from the Top?

Hey, there, Supreme Leader, where's the stuff for today, the hottest, most decisive day at Wombley Green? You're stuck into the footie again, stirring the dust at RTFC, whatever that might be.
I was invited to join this outfit on the strict understanding that I would make money - Fat Chance! Quite amusing though; and I'm sure the new betting exchange will give us a real edge.
