Broken ribs: lean weekend on the Sports Exchange

Up betimes to tend to Mrs GMcIW's broken ribs and sore but-tock (remember Forest Gump?), I am conscious that there is a dearth of News and Tips just now. Not sure we ever intended to be a Tipster site per sebut we do aim to generate Comment and Information. Bit of a lull, maybe the long shadow of Christmas has fallen over us all.

I can now see the agonies our valiant jump jockeys go through when battered, bruised and broken they rise from the wreckage of dreams, fences, trainer's ambitions... Mrs W always buys Injured Jockeys Fund cards (come on, plenty of time for the mighty Royal Mail to send you a box to dish out before the fun and frolics begin!) and encouraged to see how many friends send the same one - bit dull really, same card 12 times round the room... Mrs W's mother was a great point-to-pointer in Pembrokeshire between the Wars (I feel a limerick coming on) and fell off frequently, damaging ribs and bones: amputating her own toe with a kitchen knife on one occasion. Tough lot, the amateur sportsmen.

In search of topical twaddle to reproduce on the Sports Exchange, I bought The Weekender and only realised when I got it home that it cost £2.40; but quite entertaining, especially for info on the preparation for P2Ps and Cheltenham. Reminds me, where better for 'straight from the horse's mouth' stuff than Johnny the Fish's pub, the Pheasant, at Shefford Woodlands near Lambourn (and near me, funnily enough, a great spot for a glass and a horsey chat, I can smell its familiar stable-stench in my mind as I write this rubbish.

Good place for a tip or two is our buddy sporting site, run by the hugely enthusiastic and knowledgeable Richard Stoddart from up there in the NorthEast. Have a look at www.betcatalyst.comand pick up a tip or two from The Fox, the resident wiley beast. Also Sports Punter may have a valuable piece of intelligence to convey, his site's been mentioned recently, use our Search facility to find it.

Early breakfast called for from the sick room, must go to attend to the Spare Ribs, will be back later. Good luck on the Course, Pitch, Exchange, LBO, wherever your fancy takes you this weekend.
