The Sports Exchange

The inside track for those who need to know

I am learning fast and now grasp the difference between betting (skilled) and gaming (unskilled - except for poker).

To the EGR Live Show at Old Billingsgate (down to the river and follow your nose) on Monday where I met up with fellow member of The Sports Exchange, Ian Cilia, in from Malta for the event. He is part of CSB, the corporate consultancy with more then half an eye on the off-shore gaming industry hosting services on the island.

He introduced me to Roger Strickland, who is a board member of the Malta Remote Gaming Council, and an associate of CSB. He is also the great nephew of the late, redoubtable Mabel Strickland whose father and grandfather had been Prime Ministers of Malta. She was renowned for her energy and determination and I had the privilege of working for her companies on several occasions long ago. One incident is imprinted in my memory: Mabel, up to her elbows in printers ink, as she single-handedly set the day's edition of The Times of Malta (which she owned) in the face of a General Strike (a common occurrence in pre-Mintoff Malta).

We expect to use the CSB services as we develop further the activities and range of our friends at Matchbet - expect news on this front before long.

Back to 'gaming': you may rcall we teamed up with Hope Charity Bingo, a newly launched site serving seven charities including the St John Ambulance and PDSA (two legs good, four legs even better as Animal Farm might have said). Sadly, a bad run on the bingo tables left Hope with two maximum wins and a special prize award. Dispirited by this experience, the site has (temporarily) closed to business; all accounts and deposits have been paid. So here's an opportunity for any enthusiastic investor to reboot a membership and ready-to-go gaming site; licences paid and current, bingo punters poised and panting for the balls, first-rate system in place. And Matchbet are pasting in the sports betting exchange product too!

How's your weekend shaping up? I'll tell you about mine as it develops.
