The Peterborough Chase was once a key race for steeplechasers and has a roll of honour which can match any non-championship race. Nowadays it has lost its place in the grand scheme of things but nonetheless a decent field lines up for this today.

'The Peterborough Chase' - there's a name, redolent of racing's rich history, a proper contest for the serious racegoer, a trophy worthy of the winner's sideboard.

Contrast, if you will, the current Snooker stuff where Betfred has passed on sponsorship, Lord Archer has retired from snooker life to spend more time with his books, Steve Davis has had a Make-Over of galactic proportions and this year's winner will carry off the Pukka-Pies prize which, if placed on the winner's sideboard, will get eaten.

By now, we know the winner of the Peterborough Chase (well, I could if I chose to search around a bit) but no matter. Such contests are the stuff of English British racing, hurrah!
