Now for something completey different.......Celebrity Big Brother: Initial Thoughts

They may not be everyone's cup of tea but reality tv shows offer good positions nonetheless.

The 2010 series of Celebrity Big Brother kicks off on the 3rd January and we though we'd take a look at the betting to see if we can unearth some early value. With the contestants not being… Continue

Tipsters/ Betting Writers Needed

As some of you may know I run a site called Bet Catalyst, which mainly concentrates on horse racing. I'm in the process of putting the finishing touches to some specific sports blogs and am requiring some writers/tipsters. I've already got a tennis writer (www.bctennis.co.uk) and NFL covered, but need people to cover the following sports/areas:

golf

rugby

cricket

poker

tv reality shows

Peterborough Chase: Analysis and Preview

The Peterborough Chase was once a key race for steeplechasers and has a roll of honour which can match any non-championship race. Nowadays it has lost its place in the grand scheme of things but nonetheless a decent field lines up for this today.

www.betcatalyst.com: Value in Friday night's big fight

www.betcatalyst.com

Friday night's fight between Jason Booth and Michael Hunter could provide some value as far as betting is concerned. Both fighters aren't ko merchants by any means. Booth's five losses have all come on points, while five of his last eight wins have come via the scorecard or verdict. Michael Hunter's only loss came in a world title fight and his last three wins have all come by points wins. Booth, we think,… Continue

The Fox @ www.betcatalyst.com: NFL week 5

The Fox writes exclusively at www.betcatalyst.com.

NFL week 5 has rolled around and I have unearthed an amazing bet.

Brett Favre in his last two weeks has thrown for an average of 285 yards against decent teams.... enter St Louis, one of the worst teams in football. Ladbrokes offer 5/6 on him throwing for over 210.5 yards! GET ON!!

Another decent bet is on Pittsburgh to overcome the spread at… Continue

You are now entering the horse racing Twilight Zone!

Throw the formbook out of the window, this is the time of year when the price of a horse should never put you off.

Flat races are now full of runners who have gone past their peak. Their main targets of the summer long gone they now start falsely short. Lurking somewhere in the race are a few horses that have gone under the radar for most of the season and who are 'peaking' at the right time.

NH races, on the otherhand, are full of runners from top stables whose targets… Continue

Fancies for today's horse racing?

Anyone any fancies for today's horse racing? Reckon there's plenty of value to be had today, especially with some bookies offering 1/4 odds first five in both Gold and Silver Cups at Ayr.

Here's my three fancies for today (which judging by my record on here are ones to avoid like the plague!).

SIGNOR PELTRO must have a huge chance in the Ayr Gold Cup (3.10) despite being available at 20-1 in places. Everyone and his dog knows that for some reason horses who are 7f… Continue

A Tale of Two St Legers?

This used to be the weekend of the St Leger and Irish Champion Stakes, but a few years back someone decided to complain that all the top-class jockeys were at Leopardstown and not at Doncaster. My opinion at the time was 'who can blame them?' If you have the choice to ride in a genuine Group 1 or washed-up Classic, which one are you going to choose? For me there was nothing wrong with Dettori, Murtagh and Kinane all being at Leopardstown, as the likes of the underrated McEvoy were filling their… Continue

Return of King Kieren! Anyone any thoughts?

Reckon the Moore v Fallon battle could bring back a bit of lustre to the Flat game. Anyone have any opinions?

The Which Doctor @ Epsom today

If Noseda's colt cannot win today then I'm a Chinaman! I've backed the horse for the Cambridgeshire @ 50-1 and will be expecting a bold showing if he's to justify any follow-up bet in Newmarket's feature handicap. You can still get 3-1 in a place, but I reckon even the 11-4 is value. In my mind if the horse had gotten a run or been put into the race earlier on both his last two starts he's have either won or been placed in two very competitive handicaps - far more competitive than the race… Continue

The Which Doctor 3.15 Sandown on Saturday

This is a horse I've been looking to back since I watched the recording of his last race at Haydock. He finished 4L behind Libel Law on that occasion, but for me he was given anything but a hard race. Ridden from virtually last he was never at any moment put into the race properly, imo, and made up ground in a very pleasing manner under hands and heels.

It wasn't until I looked at his entries that I come to the conclusion that he is being laid out for the Cambridgeshire. He's also… Continue

3.15 Wolverhampton - a huge priced value bet!

Over Wolverhampton's sprint distances I like to look at the horses drawn 1-5. If those 5 horses don't inspire me I leave the race alone. Today there is one horse amongst that quintet who might be hugely over-priced - Hurricane Spirit @ 40-1 Stan James. An out and out a/w horse he has been plying his trade on turf since a second in a Listed race behind Hinton Admiral in 2007. This is his first run on the a/w since then and with that form in mind one can discount his last run, on softer… Continue

8.30 Newcastle - Coral and Betfred still 16-1 about Park's Prodigy

Harker likes a gamble and has pulled off one or two at Newcastle this season. 16-1 gives an immediate trading position and it will get shorter!

Looking to Lay - Wing Play 8.25 Sandown

Hughie Morrison's gelding has managed two seconds in his last two runs, firstly off 69 and then off 72, and has been priced up favourite for the 8.25 Sandown at around 7-4 in the village and currently trades at 2.94 on BF.

There are a few reasons why we're opposing him tonight. He's relatively exposed having had 19 runs in his career and has never won off a mark this high (highest he's won off is 66), sports cheek pieces which suggests he may not be straight forward and this is a… Continue

Sea Crest 3.10 Haydock - a Mel Brittain gamble to watch

The last horse the Brittain stable sent to Haydock which was heavily supported was Sea Rover, and he was backed from 33-1 into singlle figures and won. It's interesting his Sea Crest has already attracted support. He's 9.6 to back on BF but you can still get 10-1 with Betfred and 9-1 generally. Will give us an immediate trading position, so a little investment is probably the right call.

Forced Opinion 4.20 Yarm - First move of the day

Jimmy Quinn riding for Kevin Morgan at Yarmouth - a track where both have had a few winners. Around 8.6 - 9 to back. Definite trading position and I expect that price to contract considerably. Get on!

Little Sark 2.10 Chepstow - gamble waiting to happen?

Currently 17.5 on Betfair this horse looks like it's just ready to be gambled on. Trained by in-form David Evans and ridden by Jamie Spencer and available at that price!? Didn't stay 2m last time but has good claims on runs prior to that. 1m4f should suit, as should the ground, and one has to think there is a trading position to be had at the 17.5 win price.
