The inside track for those who need to know

You are now entering the horse racing Twilight Zone!

Throw the formbook out of the window, this is the time of year when the price of a horse should never put you off.

Flat races are now full of runners who have gone past their peak. Their main targets of the summer long gone they now start falsely short. Lurking somewhere in the race are a few horses that have gone under the radar for most of the season and who are 'peaking' at the right time.

NH races, on the otherhand, are full of runners from top stables whose targets are later down the line. Amongst their rivals are horses from lesser stables being prepared for an early season tilt at the ring.

Both situations lead to bigger priced winners, certainly more than any other time of year save for the inverse - end of NH season and beginning of the Flat.

Any opinions?

Wise words, O Sage of the Turf.

But isnt this always the way in the great race of life: full of vim and vigour at the outset: only to dull and fade as the long days of competition pass: cricketers burning out after promising starts (well, there were one or two): tennis champions stumbling under the pressure of week-on-week tournaments.

Maybe the dismal experience of our Premiership Tipster, FootballMad (see earlier bloggie stuff), is the result of early season, non-form book, extravagances, high scoring, counter-trend outcomes. Once the show really gets under way, it'll all settle down.
