FootballMad raves again - "something for the weekend, sir/madam?"

FootballMad, our Matchbet tyro (aka the Astonishing Algorithm) has hand-crafted his selections for the weekend's footie and HERE THEY ARE. His judgement so far shows an overall return of 36%, not a bad investment to start rebuilding the household budget. This comes from the www.matchbet.com site by kind permisssion:

Our football tipster, using the brilliant Powertable Catalyst (www.catalyst.com) statistics, has had a good start: During the first two weeks, he had an… Continue

New balls please!

We invented tennis and the Davis Cup: How is it that British lawn tennis gets £25m pa from the Championships, £30m over 5 years from Aegon**, and they tip out this heap of damaged or immature codswallop to represent the mighty Great Britain on the world stage? They knew there was a problem - why else stage it in a blue-carpeted barn on Merseyside?

So we are now in the bottom league (sound familiar?) and the only redeeming feature is that it contains Denmark, home of the blessed Caro… Continue

Fancies for today's horse racing?

Anyone any fancies for today's horse racing? Reckon there's plenty of value to be had today, especially with some bookies offering 1/4 odds first five in both Gold and Silver Cups at Ayr.

Here's my three fancies for today (which judging by my record on here are ones to avoid like the plague!).

SIGNOR PELTRO must have a huge chance in the Ayr Gold Cup (3.10) despite being available at 20-1 in places. Everyone and his dog knows that for some reason horses who are 7f… Continue

FootballMad, the football Tipster we are offering in conjunction with our buddies Matchbet. Bet on the Matchbet exchange at www.matchbet.com. Find the footie tips at 'Tipster' link on Matchbet site.

As Ben Smith, a fellow member, told us last week:

Matchbet have introduced a really exciting new feature, the 'tipster' service. What they do is actually allow tipsters to not only recommend bets but allow Matchbet to… Continue

Last Night of the Proms.....

I watched Last Night of the Proms last night, patriotic neck hair bristling in all the usual places, and remember hearing my Grandad's recollections of horror in the trenches in WW1; and my Dad's tales of the RAF in WW2. They felt very strongly about what they wanted for their children, and their children's children. It was all simple stuff: Freedom from oppression, equal opportunity, honour and Fair Play. This morning I reviewed just a couple of observations of routine Life… Continue

The Matchbet tipster service

Matchbet have introduced a realy exciting new feature, the 'tipster' service. What they do is actually allow tipsters to not only recommend bets but allow Matchbet to publish them and later to publish the p/l of the portfolio.

I might try my hand myself, once you have a track record you can then charge others for the tips. Good idea!

Its a bit difficult to find, on their News page, but the bets are interesting, for instance, their tipster this week recommends a Chelsea win ,in fact a… Continue

While on the subject of The Beatles

the Mono remasters are by far the best. In fact, some (including myself) may say they are exceedingly good. She loves you yeah yeah yeah.

A Tale of Two St Legers?

This used to be the weekend of the St Leger and Irish Champion Stakes, but a few years back someone decided to complain that all the top-class jockeys were at Leopardstown and not at Doncaster. My opinion at the time was 'who can blame them?' If you have the choice to ride in a genuine Group 1 or washed-up Classic, which one are you going to choose? For me there was nothing wrong with Dettori, Murtagh and Kinane all being at Leopardstown, as the likes of the underrated McEvoy were filling their… Continue

Another Piece from David Wisnman..

Brazil and Ghana Book Their Tickets To South Africa

Brazil and Ghana were the latest teams to qualify for the World Cup taking the total number of qualified teams to eight. Ghana make it back to back World Cups after first qualifying in 2006. Brazil of course have never missed a World Cup. Wednesday night is the second part of this week’s qualifying and more teams should qualify on Wednesday night.

Denmark will basically confirm their spot if they defeat Albania. Denmark… Continue

Return of King Kieren! Anyone any thoughts?

Reckon the Moore v Fallon battle could bring back a bit of lustre to the Flat game. Anyone have any opinions?
