Gordon McIvor Wilson's Blog (119)

Blog early, blog often

As the autumn mornings dawn darker and generally less inviting, abandon the early morning jog and and start the day with a spirited clearing of the frontal lobes - shake the brain cells into action - dust off the sluggish thoughts from last night - and pen a few lines on The Sports Exchange pages.

Economic contrasts next week

Next week heralds two hugely contrasting economic events:

Wed 20th: the coalition's Comprehensive Spending Review sets the seal on Austerity for years to come; and then

Fri 22nd: final pricing set for the Betfair IPO and first dealings.

The amazing…

Honest team sports at last

What a joy to see a world-class contest - its the GOLF, stupid - conducted without the entire commentary dedicated to CHEATING, CHICANERY, SPOILING, FUDGING and FRAUD.

Good for the Ryder Cup teams and organisers. Golf is not seen as a team game: feast on this and rejoice!

What a lesson to the self-servers and diddlers of football, cricket and other 'team' sports...

The Betfair IPO - coming to a market near you

John (J2O, the sober member) asked the question:

How do people feel BETFAIR and the BETFAIR IPO will be affected by the emergence of new exchanges such as SMARKETS, MATCHBET, and AIX?

Our best informed commentator member, Adonis the 1st, answered the question in unequivocal…

It's just not cricket

Any strange episodes on the ODI pitch whilst I have been on the real tennis court this afternoon I wonder. Or has the presence on this sceptred isle of the priest of Rome brought some much needed honesty to these international contests? Fat chance. Beyond redemption, all of them.

Local developments in the Sports Exchange world (J2O News flash)

A few home truths from our lovable sports gambler J2O, the sober face of betting. You may have seen John's critique of the Matchbet exchange in another blog today? In case you missed it, here it is again:

"Then I had a brief conversation with Ben from Matchbet. Told him IMO Matchbet is not fit fot use in current…

Priceless blogging from The Sports Exchange

We've been running the Sports Exchange for getting on for 18 months now and THIS WEEK we have started to pay Mr Ning, the proprietor of this blogokit. Does this make our mouthings even more valuable, dear Reader? You bet it does!

We are diversifying into another Sports Exchange site over the near future and YOU will be the first to hear the details. It will adopt and promote one or more INDEPENDENT BETTING EXCHANGES and will be closely linked with immediate betting…

Smarkets powering ahead on footie markets

You must check out www.smarkets.com and get punting on their 'bet different'* smart exchange, lots of zingy markets, helpful info, form and chat.

Have a go on Millwall v Hull, and check out the differing odds available there and at the Exchange Betting button in the toolbar above. And can someone explain to me the differing method of showing…

Millwall markets at Matchbet

Appetising markets on offer for the Millwall home game today, flush with wins in each match so far this season, 3-0 away last week.

Matchbet are running in-stadium betting, provided by superhuman efforts of our good buddy, Craig Freeman [Good on you, mate!]. The Matchbet exchange carries these markets and there were some lopsided outcomes last week, good scope for the canny punter - lots of them on The Sports Exchange!

To bet with our Betting Exchange, powered…

Austerity strikes!!

Tough old world, we've now got to pay Mr Ning, the Supreme Leader, for using his bloggy service.

Here at Sports Exchange HQ we are having a whip-round and reckon we can fund you freeloading readers for about 8 weeks. During this time, we will move amongst you with a begging bowl. We also…

Millwall maul not brawl on a torrid day for Bristol City

Stunning start for the Millwall resurgence in the championship, tough on Bristol, tough on the causes of Bristol. Great start to the south London club's return to the Big Time, backed by our old friends MATCHBET who are running markets on the games as well as printing their snappy logo on the back of the Millwall shirts. Blimey, what a combo, great initiative all round and there are betting KIOSKS in the stadium for Millwall home… Continue

Summer blogging...

What a summer, so far, long, lazy days (I wish!) lots of Sports activity to bet on and blog about. A very bloggable season. Alas, work has intervened and the Sports Exchange team have been committed elsewhere. Amazingly, members have still stuck in there and people are continually reading the site. Thanks a bundle!

Mr Ning, the big cheese of this blogo-system, starts charging for his services next week and the Central Committee of The Sports… Continue

Uber Alles, chaps, zimmer frames for Inger-land?

Well, that's all right then chaps, Inger-land arent as bad as we thought last week. They did better against Germany than the Argies, by a clear goal - and really better by TWO clear goals if the incompetent ref from Uruguay for God's sake, had spotted the Inger-land second score.

And the…

"Capello must go" tweets leading sports trading house

Let me bring you a disciplined rant about Capello and our dully disappointing Inger-land recent performance. This takes the form of a short Twitter trail, reproduced below. I have tried to preserve the anonymity of the tweeter, (is this possible in the wonderful world of the Twittersphere, I wonder?). Sorry, tweeter (anon) but your views deserve a wider audience even if the star-bedazzled masters of the FA cant see it.… Continue

WC again (not World Cup)

Lavatorial display first half, where do Inger-Land get these make-weights from? The Italian chap in charge should have poured neat alcohol down their throats as they went on, just what's needed, certainly what's needed back here trying to watch the comic turns. Steward, another Ozzie blaster (14.5%) and a triple Gordons (Export strength, no tonic).

Listening on Five Live, brilliant, and you dont have to watch the t*****s faffing about. Not sure the 5Live team will last the… Continue

Wobbly start at Wombledon - Alpenhorn v Vuvuzela

The Swiss franc came under heavy pressure this afternoon as several sub-stantial Gnomes quivered in their comfy padded seats on Centre Court as their national Hero [that's enough cherry jam, thank you - Ed] faced defeat at the hands of a Columbian cartel who had gate-crashed the proceedings.

Fortunately for Aegon, sponsors of the small yellow ball, Federer regained his customary alpen-advantage after 4 sets of alp-hanging stuff. Not an alpenhorn nor vuvuzela to be heard to drown out… Continue
