The Which Doctor @ Epsom today

If Noseda's colt cannot win today then I'm a Chinaman! I've backed the horse for the Cambridgeshire @ 50-1 and will be expecting a bold showing if he's to justify any follow-up bet in Newmarket's feature handicap. You can still get 3-1 in a place, but I reckon even the 11-4 is value. In my mind if the horse had gotten a run or been put into the race earlier on both his last two starts he's have either won or been placed in two very competitive handicaps - far more competitive than the race… Continue

Another piece from David Wiseman.

Season Already Over For Liverpool?

When it comes to soccer there is an old saying and that is while you can’t win the title in August you can definitely lose it. Only three games into the season and it looks like this applies to Liverpool. After two losses from its opening three matches, its odds have ballooned out to 10.5.

It is already six points from the lead of the soccer league and that is before any European matches or the FA Cup. Something is going to have to give at Anfield… Continue

Price Cloning Robot

There are more conspiracy theories about betting exchanges than there are about Americans covering up obvious alien landings.

While on the subject of ALIENS, did you know that over 10,000 American have now been abducted by alien crafts and then returned safely to Planet Earth… I bet they have a few stories to tell.

Two types of Exchange Client...

Punters

Need the presence of multiple other Punters, but of opposite betting intentions, and awareness of the currently fair probabilities of success or failure in the part of the Market which interests them. This ready availability of opposite intentions is what a Punter typically regards as "Liquidity".

Want to minimise the overheads which exist whether they win or lose!.

Want to maximise the average efficiency of their betting at all times.

Insist on… Continue

FTSE.

Has anyone else noticed the FTSE sneakily sneaking up all the time? 4850 at COP. When we went to see our bank manager about a year ago it was around 3600. That is 33% increase in about a year. I am quite pleased as bank manager was suggesting we go 50-50, but I said it cannot get any worse. Let us stay 75-25.

This general improvement in the economy could make next years UK election quite interesting. Stil think the tories will win, but "it's the economy stupid", and if it keeps… Continue

The Which Doctor 3.15 Sandown on Saturday

This is a horse I've been looking to back since I watched the recording of his last race at Haydock. He finished 4L behind Libel Law on that occasion, but for me he was given anything but a hard race. Ridden from virtually last he was never at any moment put into the race properly, imo, and made up ground in a very pleasing manner under hands and heels.

It wasn't until I looked at his entries that I come to the conclusion that he is being laid out for the Cambridgeshire. He's also… Continue

Lovelace in York 2.45

Snagged a bit of 13 last night about Lovelace. I think today could finally be his day. After a few runs where the draw and poor luck in running has cost him dear, he looks to have a strong chance in this race today and so long as Jamie and not Frank turns up I reckon it's a solid win and place bet. I'll also be taking a bit of a chance and taking on Sariska with Dar Ri Me today. The ground will be very fast for Sariska and she takes on an older, wiser filly than she has met so far this season… Continue

The Final Test contributed by David Wiseman. Any Comments?

All to play for as the Ashes heads to the Oval .

For a long time the Ashes was on the horizon but now four of the five Tests have been played and it all comes down to the Oval. It is the first time since 1965/66 that the Ashes is all square heading to the final Test match of the series.

The form of both sides has fluctuated but now Australia are firmly in the box seat. You would think that the Ashes 2009 is going to be a good one for them unless England can make some sort… Continue

Another fine Premium Charge mess.

Just thought I'd post some details on the hole this lifetime premium charge looks to be leaving me in. I've detailed this in a blog entry - here. Will anyone else suffer due to the change?

3.15 Wolverhampton - a huge priced value bet!

Over Wolverhampton's sprint distances I like to look at the horses drawn 1-5. If those 5 horses don't inspire me I leave the race alone. Today there is one horse amongst that quintet who might be hugely over-priced - Hurricane Spirit @ 40-1 Stan James. An out and out a/w horse he has been plying his trade on turf since a second in a Listed race behind Hinton Admiral in 2007. This is his first run on the a/w since then and with that form in mind one can discount his last run, on softer… Continue

8.30 Newcastle - Coral and Betfred still 16-1 about Park's Prodigy

Harker likes a gamble and has pulled off one or two at Newcastle this season. 16-1 gives an immediate trading position and it will get shorter!

Fixtures 06 August / Karabakh v Honka

Karabakh look to have an inflated price at 2.64. Don’t have the faintest Idea where they come from or where they play but there you have it in a nutshell. The price is too high.

Laying Halfway House Brighton 4.00

For my lay bet I was tempted to take on Surprise Party in the 3.50 at Haydock. She is up against some class droppers and is only 5th on my ratings but the record of favourites in such races at Yarmouth is a fairly high 36% and the trainers overall and recent strike-rate tempers enthusiasm as does his confidence in the filly.

The 30% strike-rate for favourites in the 4:00 at Brighton is also far from ideal in percentage terms but we do have 14 other horses running for us against… Continue

Looking to Lay - Wing Play 8.25 Sandown

Hughie Morrison's gelding has managed two seconds in his last two runs, firstly off 69 and then off 72, and has been priced up favourite for the 8.25 Sandown at around 7-4 in the village and currently trades at 2.94 on BF.

There are a few reasons why we're opposing him tonight. He's relatively exposed having had 19 runs in his career and has never won off a mark this high (highest he's won off is 66), sports cheek pieces which suggests he may not be straight forward and this is a… Continue
